The three major elements that set us apart
Safety Standards
New surf schools are opening all the time. As there are no proper regulations on standards and safety for surf schools in Bali. What some claim may not be what they have.
Check that the school have an international certification logo on web site or brochure, for example from Surfing Australia for instructors accreditation. This insures that you will be joining a proper surf school with international standards of coaching and safety.
Check & insist the instructor who teaches you should have proof of:
- A valid international coach certificate e.g. Surfing Austarlia
- Bronze Medallion Certification (life saving) from ILS (International Life Saving Federation) or Balawista (Indonesian equivalent and internationally recognised)
The surf school should have:
- A valid insurance certificate
- If you book through an agent make sure you are brought to the school of your choice no matter what, or call direct.
Coaching Standards
Not all surf lessons are the same. Standards may vary. Most out fit will guarantee you standing on your first lesson. If you want a little more than this, you should choose where you learn.
Learning to stand and knowing how to surf and understand what you do, are two different things. Many surf schools or board hire vendors on the beach, will spend a few minutes showing you how to get up, warm up exercise and it’s straight into the water, equipping you with very little understanding of the surf. Surfing is much more safe & fun if you understand what you do.
Facilities & Location
Always good to have nice atmosphere, setting and facilities. It can get extremely hot on the beach. After surfing you just might want to chill out, have a swim in the pool or relax. If you are travelling with a family or partner who doesn’t want to surf, its good to know that they can relax at a comfortable place while you are out learning to surf.
Location of the surf school should also be close proximity to the beach you will learn, so you don’t have to walk for miles.
Quality soft boards are a must. ProSurfSchool uses brand new top range imported Australian training boards (G Boards)
